As the heat of summer dwindles we start to put away our soft, flowy outfits and our soft, natural summer style makeup. The question is, what do we pair with crisp fall fashions of plaid, cardigans and boots?
Plum/Violet/Lavender- The "go-to" shade this season is plum or lavender. These colors may be a bit hard for everyone to pull off. While it's hard to wear purple or plum blush, you can do a lip that uses purple tones (pinky-purples or soft plums) or wear plum, lavender or violet on your lids. Purples are actually a great compliment to green and brown eyes, so go bold. Wear a nude or chocolate lip with violet eye makeup.
If you're not too confident with purples, never fear! There are many more delicious styles for you to sink your makeup brushes in to.
Eyes- There are some strong proponents of the "bold eye". Bold black eyeliner and dark, brooding shadows are being worn. You can carry over the "smokey eye" from seasons past and top with dark mascara. Use a mix of white, black and greys for serious sultry eyes.
Or, you can go more neutral. Palettes with seafoam, aqua, soft greens, soft pinks and woodsy browns are in all the stores.
Lips- What goes better with bold plaid than gorgeous red lips? Oh, yes. Give your pucker the spot of color the season with bold, glamorous, dramatic reds. If you use a red with blue undertones, not only do you make a "stop traffic" statement, you get the added benefit of your teeth appearing whiter!
Also hot are chocolate browns and pinky-browns. Yum! These colors are so warm and chic at the same time. Satin finishes make these colors perfect.

Cheeks- If you're going bold lips or bold eyes, keep your cheeks neutral with a soft bronze, pinky-brown or peachy shade. All are in style and all will keep the focus on your eyes and lips.
Wearing a softer, more neutral look? Wear cheery bright pinks to perk up your face and bring a sparkle to your eye.
If you're really bold you can even wear a soft peach over a soft plum for a runway ready look.
Face- This is one I've been preaching for years; Mineral Makeup! Even though it's been popular for awhile, and around even longer, it is really picking up steam as the "go-to" style for Fall 2009. There are tons of different brands and all at different price points, so you won't have any trouble finding something that is affordable and wearable.
